Computers have a very good history for an example of a timeline of an upcoming technology. They started as a massive machine that quantified math and shrunk into a piece of technology we can put in our pockets.

The first computer ever made was for the military. Many things that grow into larger advance in technology come from the military, this computer did not have an interface an was mainly used for some problems.
